Group denies negotiating with FG

New militant group, Niger Delta Avengers has denied reports that it’s negotiating with the Federal Government.

The group made the denial on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, via its Twitter handle.

“This is to the Gen. public we're not negotiating with any Committee. If Fed Govt is discussing with any group they're doing that on their own,” NDA said.

Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu revealed on Monday, June 6, that President Muhammadu Buhari had called for a ceasefire in the Niger Delta to give room for dialogue.

“The President is interested in dialogue and has mandated the military to halt actions for about two weeks to ensure a team that will be led by the NSA, dialogues with the militants to ensure peace in the region,” Kachikwu said according to Vanguard.

“This is coming as more oil companies in the Niger Delta have reviewed their operations, following continued bombing of their facilities in Delta and Bayelsa states,” he added.

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo also held a meeting with Niger Delta stakeholders on Tuesday, June 7, to discuss the government’s next move.
