‘Threatening Saraki, Ekweremadu may lead to Buhari’s impeachment,’ Lawyer says

Agbazuere further warned the leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to handle the matter with care or it could consume both Buhari and the party.

President Muhammadu Buhari

A constitutional lawyer from Abia State, Anthony Agbazuere has said that the current crisis raging in the National Assembly over its leaders could lead to the impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Agbazuere further warned the leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to handle the matter with care or it could consume both Buhari and the party.

According to Punch, the lawyer made the comments on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, while speaking at a press conference in Umuahia.

He said:

“APC must not forget that the same structure which brought Saraki also brought Ekweremadu on board, and the Senators in this alliance are greater in number.”

“An attempt to threaten them may even lead to the impeachment of either President Buhari or both Buhari and his Vice, Professor Yemi Osibanjo. The implications are obvious.”

Agbazuere further urged the APC members to “swallow their pride and accept Senator Olusola Saraki and Hon. Yakubu Dogora as Senate President, and Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively in the interest of the party and to move Nigeria forward adding that Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu’s emergence “is a bitter pill which the APC must swallow to survive.”

The Assembly has been embroiled in a leadership battle ever since June 9 when Senate President, Bukola Saraki and House of Representatives Speaker, Yakubu Dogara defied the APC to contest and win the positions.
