Service Chiefs brief President on Boko Haram fight

The meeting, which held at the Defence House in Abuja, was centred on the fight against Boko Haram and constant crude oil theft in the Niger Delta.

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, held a meeting with Nigeria’s Service Chiefs in a bid to assess the security situation in the country.

The meeting, which held at the Defence House in Abuja, was centred on the fight against Boko Haram and constant crude oil theft in the Niger Delta, ThisDay reports.

The meeting, which was also attended by Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, is said to have lasted for more than two hours.

“Since he (Buhari) was inaugurated as our Commander-in-Chief, this is the first time that we are formally meeting him to give a general security briefing on the country, and that went very well; we have been able to provide insight into the security situation in Nigeria,” Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin said while briefing State House correspondents on the meeting.

“On Boko Haram, we briefed him on the level of successes that have been recorded, as we want to maintain the tempo and sustain that until they are routed out,” Jibrin added.

He also explained that the Command and Control Centre of the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) would soon be relocated relocated to Maiduguri, Borno State in line with Buhari’s directive.

Others in attendance at the meeting were the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh; Chief of Army Staff, Lt-General Kenneth T. J. Minimah; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal A. N. Amosun; National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki.
