The Spokesman for the Upper Chamber, Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, said the report and documents by the Department of State Service (DSS), which was leaked to the media on Friday, March 24, vindicated the Senate.
The DSS had sent the report to the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami to substantiate its earlier claims that Magu lacks the integrity required of a person expected to head an anti-corruption agency.
In the report, the DSS detailed the questionable antecedents of Magu and backed it with some damning documents.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday, March 25, Abdullahi said judging by the new report, the DSS even gave Magu a soft landing in the first report it sent to the senate.
He said: "Following several calls made to me today by journalists seeking my comments on the leak report on Mr. Ibrahim Magu which was more damning than the one submitted to us, I can only say that myself and my colleagues have been vindicated.
"From that report which is now public, it is obvious the DG SSS even tried to give Magu soft landing in the report that was sent to the Senate. The recent report is messier and shows that our decision not to confirm his nomination was right.
"We therefore call on all Nigerians to continue to have full confidence and trust on the Nigerian Senate as it discharges its responsibilities according to the letter and spirit of the Nigerian constitution."#
Magu, however, has since responded to the report, saying all the allegations against him are false
Presidency sources have also said that President Muhammadu Buhari may overrule the DSS as he (Buhari) and his close aides believe Magu is clean.
