We won't allow corrupt powerful people sink Nigeria - Minister says

Mohammed said those involved in corruption cases are powerful people who will not be allowed to sink Nigeria.

The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has refuted claims that the Federal Government is violating the rights of some accused persons in its fight against corruption.

Speaking in Abuja today, February 23, at a dinner organised by the Africa Centre for Leadership and Strategic Development (Centre LSD), Mohammed said those involved in corruption cases are powerful people who will not be allowed to sink Nigeria.

Mohammed said: "Our resolve now is as strong as our resolve then, which is to bring about that change that you are yearning for, and we have not departed from that path. Probably what we did not factor was the scale and extent of the rot, and the extent of the rot is such that even when I read about what transpired in the last administration, and I begin to wonder what would have happened if that change did not take place.

"It is only when Nigerians take possession of the war against corruption that we are going to really make any head-way. The kind of figures that are coming out, many of it is very well verified, but I don’t see the anger in Nigerians.”

The dinner was held for for the Ministers that had their roots in the civil society, including Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Minister of Environment, Hajia Aminat Muhammed, Minister of State, National Planning, Hajia Zainab Ahmed, and Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Barr. Solomon Dalung.
