Buhari’s associate released after returning N100M to EFCC

Isa, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), also reportedly promised to refund the remaining N70 million soon.

Jafaru Isa

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released Jafaru Isa, a political associate of President Muhammadu Buhari, after he returned N100 million out of N170 million which he collected from formerNational Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki.

Isa, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), also reportedly promised to refund the remaining N70 million soon.

“We let him go after returning the sum of N100million. We are expecting him to return the rest soon,” a source told Premium Times.

Isa was said to have collected the money from Dasuki to acquire a property for him. The APC chieftain was arrested in Abuja on Wednesday, January 6, 2016.

Meanwhile Buhari is said to have dropped Isa from his ministerial list after discovering that he had accepted money from Dasuki.

Dasuki is at the center of a massive money laundering investigation and is alleged to have supervised the looting of the $2.1 billion in funds which were meant for the procurement of arms for Nigeria's military.

He was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) on December 1, 2015 and handed over to the EFCC the day after.

The former NSA is reported to have implicated several prominent persons in the deal including former governors, ex-ministers and members of the PDP.

Dasuki’s lawyer however denied the report that his client had become an informant while the former NSA said that ex-President, Goodluck Jonathan was aware of the transactions he had made.

Jonathan has however denied authorizing the release of the stated funds despite the former NSA’s claim that he got the necessary presidential approval for the transactions.

Dasuki was released on bail from Kuje Prison in December 2015 but was soon re-arrested by the DSS.
