Customs seize N119m contrabands in 4 months

Nmayawo said that the seizures were recorded in various unauthorised routes in the three states that made up the command.

The Sokoto Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service ( NCS), said it had seized contraband worth over N 119 million in the last four months.

Mr Muhammad Nmayawo, the Controller of the command, made the disclosure while addressing newsmen in Sokoto on Thursday.

He said that some of the seized items include; second hand clothes, vegetable oil, foreign rice, vehicles and mosquito coils.

Nmayawo said that the command had also arrested six suspects during the period under review.

The controller said that officers and men of the command were determined to stamp out smuggling in the area.

'' We are determined to ensure total compliance with the policy thrust of the present management of the service.

'' We are fully committed to ensure integrity, honesty, fear of God and transparency in this direction, to stop all acts of smuggling.

'' We are also enlightening the residents of the various border communities under the command that smuggling is not a business and they should desist from it.

'' The command has also warned all its officers and men that the Service has zero-tolerance for indiscipline and corruption," he said.
