News has it that N1.5bn cash was withdrawn from the ministry's account, with the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN).
Adding that as civil servants, they were trained not to disobey the instruction of a superior authority.
They said the cash was withdrawn in two batches, N605 million and N800 million respectively.
The accountants have since been suspended, pending the outcome of investigations.
Sources say they mentioned the names of those involved.
You will recall that a former minister, Elder Godsday Orubebe was quizzed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), in relation to this case, and he said he had left the ministry when the cash withdrawals were made.
