Navy intercepts boat carrying 27 Jerry cans of stolen petrol

The Navy said the vandals abandoned the boat on sighting a naval team and fled into the bush to evade arrest.

Nigeria has lost a minimum of N8.04 billion since January, to the incessant vandalism of the country’s gas pipelines, according to the Nigerian Gas Company, NGC, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

According to the Commander of NNS BEECROFT, which carried out the operation, Commodore Abraham Adaji, the seizure was made on the night of Thursday, April 14.

Speaking to newsmen on Friday, April 14, he said the vandals abandoned the boat on sighting a naval team and fled into the bush to evade arrest.

Adaji assured that the navy is determined to rid the country’s waterways of oil thieves and vandals.

''We are also in partnership with local authorities that are closest to where these assets are and who are the first to know if anything is going on,” he said.

The Commander added that the navy is "fully equipped and ready to fight to an end, pipeline vandalism and oil theft’'.

Pulse recalls that President Muhammadu Buhari had this week said that the military would treat oil vandals like Boko Haram terrorists.
