Fulani herdsmen kill police officer, 60 others

The herdsmen also killed 60 villagers during an invasion of four communities in the area on Sunday, January 24, 2016.

Fulani herdsmen in Adamawa State have killed the Divisional Police Officer of the Vunokilang Police Station in the Girei Local Government Area of the state, Okozie Okereofor, reports say.

The herdsmen also killed 60 villagers during an invasion of four communities in the area on Sunday, January 24, 2016, Punch reports.

The incident has been confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer for the state, Othman Abubakar.

“The suspected Fulani herdsmen raided four villages in Girei Local Government Area on Sunday morning around 5.30am, killing scores including the DPO,” Abubakar said.

The attack was also confirmed by the Executive Director of Stefanos Foundation, Mark Lipdo who got reports from some survivors.

“Information says early morning today (Sunday), Fulani terrorists unleashed violence on three communities in the Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State,” Lipdo said.

“Survivors said they burnt down houses in Ko, Gereng and Ndikajam and were shooting sporadically. It is still difficult to establish the casualties as people are currently running to safe places,” he added.

Fulani herdsmen are also said to have killed two riot policemen in Mimbia, a border village between Plateau and Kaduna states.
