The Senate on Tuesday commiserated with the family of late H.I.D. Awolowo, wife of late Premier of defunct Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

The upper chamber of the National Assembly also appointed a delegation to proceed on a condolence visit to the Awolowo family in Ikenne, Ogun.

The resolutions followed a motion by Sen. Olarenwaju Tejuoso (APC, Ogun Central) and six others.

The six-member delegation to Ikenne would be led by President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, and the members are Ahmed Lawan, Shehu Sani, Biodun Olujimi, Ben Bruce and Stella Odua.

In their remarks on the motion, female senators described the Awolowo as a true mother of Nigeria and an epitome of womanhood.

According to Sen. Monsurat Sumonu (APC- Oyo), Mrs Awolowo encouraged women participation in politics.

Sen. Biodun Olujimi (PDP- Ekiti South), said that the deceased, like her late husband, loved Nigeria greatly.

For Sen. Fatima Rasaki (PDP-Ekiti Central), the late woman was a mother whose virtues would never be forgotten in the history of Nigeria.
