President's aides evict journalist from Aso Rock for asking ‘wrong question’

Ubale Musa, a correspondent with German Radio, Deutsche Welle, had his media accreditation withdrawn after he asked visiting Chadian President, Idriss Deby about the South African mercenaries said to be fighting against Boko Haram.

Former President, Goodluck Jonathan

Aides of President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday, May 11, 2015, evicted a journalist from the Presidential Villa after he asked what was termed ‘a wrong question.’

Ubale Musa, a correspondent with German Radio, Deutsche Welle, had his media accreditation withdrawn after he asked visiting Chadian President, Idriss Deby about the South African mercenaries said to be fighting against Boko Haram.

Musa had asked Deby about the link between the mercenaries and the Joint Multinational Task Force which included troops from Chad.

The Chadian President responded saying that he had no information concerning the mercenaries.

However, upon Deby’s departure, Musa’s accreditation tag was withdrawn by security operatives in the Villa.

The journalist confirmed the incident saying that his question seemed to have made Jonathan’s Chief Security Officer uncomfortable.

Reports that Nigeria was using mercenaries to fight Boko Haram surfaced recently but the country’s government issued a denial saying that the foreigners were only acting as consultants.

Deby had said while speaking to journalists during his visit, that he would not reveal the location of Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau even if he was aware of his whereabouts.
