Ex-President's ally remanded in prison over alleged N3bn fraud

Turnah, alongside seven firms, were arraigned on 12 counts bordering on obtaining by false pretense, money laundering and abuse of office.

George Turnah is being prosecuted over an alleged fraud of over N3 billion.

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) brought the accused to court on Wednesday, May 24.

Turnah, alongside seven firms, were arraigned on 12 counts bordering on obtaining by false pretense, money laundering and abuse of office to the tune of N3, 094, 268, 235.69 (Three billion, ninety-four million, two hundred and sixty-eight thousand, two hundred and thirty-five naira, sixty-nine kobo).

The accused had served as a former Special Adviser on Youths to the ex-managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Mr. Bassey Dan-Abia.

The presiding judge, Justice Ibrahim Watila, had earlier dismissed the oral bail application of the accused person through his (Turnah) counsel, Amuda Kanika, (SAN).
