A suspect in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has died due to ill health.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was established in 2003, to investigate financial crimes relating to money laundering etc.

Arowofela Olufemi, a former employee of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) was accused of diverting over N100 million.
Speaking on the incident, Wilson Uwujaren said “The cause of the sudden death is yet to be ascertained even as the corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital. The family of the deceased has already been notified of the incident while the matter has been reported to the Onikan Division of the Nigeria Police.”
Olufem was arrested by EFCC following a petition from his former employers-SEC, at the premises of a bank, where he went to withdraw part of the money.
Arowofela Olufemi developed chest pains, and died at a military hospital.
