Terrorists kill 100 in new attack on Baga

Residents of the community stated that the attack started on Tuesday, January 6 and continued till the next day.

According to reports, Boko Haram insurgents have killed about 100 people in Baga, Borno State.

"I escaped with my family in the car after seeing how Boko Haram was killing people ... I saw bodies in the street. Children and women, some were crying for help," a fleeing resident, Mohammed Bukar told Reuters.

The casualty figure was given by the district head of Baga, Abba Hassan, who reportedly said on Thursday, January 8, that at least 100 people were killed in the first attack.

Another resident, Abubakar Gulama is said to have stated that he crossed "many dead bodies on the ground" and that "the whole town was on fire".

Boko Haram militants initially attacked Baga on Saturday, January 4, and took over a military base after overwhelming troops in a gun battle.

A resident also told BBC that as many as 2000 people could have been killed by Boko Haram in the recent onslaught on Baga.
