Terrorists invent biofuel from groundnut oil to power their motorbikes

Fuel has become expensive since the military onslaught began. It is sold to Boko Haram at N70,000 for a 25 litre jerry can by black market operators.

Boko Haram terrorists.

Punch reports that a senior military source said one of the female hostages rescued from the sect’s dungeon revealed that they now convert groundnut oil into biodiesel.

The source said “Boko Haram were paying outrageous sums to get fuel and the incredible profit margin made young men defy the risk and take fuel to them.

“The cutting off of fuel supplies has badly crippled Boko Haram and that has been made possible by blocking all identified supply routes and the crackdown on the suppliers.”

Babakura Kolo, a member of the vigilante group assisting the Nigerian Army also said “It was a lucrative business for the fuel vendors.

“But we have taken care of them and Boko Haram are feeling the crunch because they are out of supplies.”

Reports say the terrorists attack farmers around the Sambisa area, to get groundnut which they crush with diesel powered engines to extract the oil. They then add salt to make it combustible.

The Nigerian Army also announced the discovery of a large cache of arms belonging to Boko Haram, which they say is worth N20m.
