Speaking during plenary on Tuesday, January 24, 2016, Sani who headed the Senate committee on the investigation said President Buhari was misinformed by the SGF and his minions in the Presidency.
Sani whose comments led to a rowdy session on the floor of the Senate further described President Buhari's response as "a funeral service" of the anti-corruption crusade in Nigeria.
"I listened to the list of names of those that signed the letter and they omitted the chairman's name which is myself," Sani said.
"I know I'm not very big in the frame, but I believe that my name shouldn't have been omitted. This shows clearly how the SGF and his minions within the presidency misinformed the president to sign such a letter.
"This letter is a funeral service of the anti-corruption crusade in Nigeria.
“When it comes to fighting corruption in the national assembly and the judiciary and the larger Nigerian scene, the presidency uses insecticide, but when it comes to fighting corruption within the presidency, they use deodorant. That is very unfortunate.
"Also, If we can allow the report of this committee to be shredded into pieces, then it would be right to also open all the doors of the 38 prisons in Nigeria so all the convicts and those awaiting trial to go scoot free," Sani said.
Senator Sani faulted President Buhari's claim that the SGF was not given fair hearing adding that Mr Lawal sent his secretary Presidential Initiative on the Northeast to represent him.
