Have no fear Lagosians, your governor will provide enough rice for you to eat in December

The Lagos state government is making arrangements to bring 51,000 metric tons of rice into the state.

Lagos Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode

This was disclosed by Special Adviser to GovernorAkinwunmi Ambode on Food Security, Sanni Okanlawon during a press briefing in Lagos.

Okanlawon also said that the state would be able to bring in 200,000 metric tons of rice by the end of 2017.

He also said that the rice, which is the Lake variety, will be cheaper than imported rice.

“A lot of costs have been involved, the paddy rice that will be coming from Kebbi State is at a cost, transportation of the paddy is at a cost, processing at Imota in Lagos State is at a cost,” Okanlawon said according to Daily Independent.

“You operate it through electricity and even generator, and packaging is at a cost, branding and all that is at a cost. We are going to put all of these costs together to determine our price but you can be rest assured that it will be friendly as against what is obtainable from the imported rice,” he added.

Okanlawon also said that the lake rice is more nutritious and wholesome than the imported ones.

The Lagos government had, in July, announced that it was partnering with Kebbi state to ensure that quality rice emanated from the 2.5 metric tonne-capacity mill to boost food production in Lagos State.
