President's wife silences Fayose with US trip

Mrs Buhari has since denied the claims, and threatened legal action against Fayose if he did not retract the statement and tender a public apology.

Fayose had alleged that there was a judgment against the President's wife, on how she wired $170,000 to an American, Jefferson, who was convicted in the infamous  $185 million Halliburton scandal.

Mrs Buhari has since denied the claims and threatened legal action against Fayose if he did not retract the statement and tender a public apology.

In fact,  a former chairman of the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Lamorde, who claimed to be very familiar with the case dismissed Fayose's allegations, saying the Aisha Buhari mentioned in the fraud case was someone else entirely, and not the President's wife.

In June, the acting Public Affairs Officer, US Consulate General, Lagos, Frank Sellin, also said the US government has no corruption case against Aisha Buhari.

But the Governor insisted Mrs Buhari was involved in the case.

However, wife of the President is currently in Washington DC, as the Special Guest of the 25th Anniversary of Zumunta Association.

A statement by her media aide, Zakari Nadabo stated that the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is expected to speak at the event taking place at the Silver Spring civic centre in Maryland.

“Mrs Buhari Will also be hosted to a round table discussion by the United States Institute of Peace to explore an in-depth conversation with a group of senior United states policy makers and an invested group of practitioners focused on Nigeria," the statement said.

The Ekiti State Governor has, however, not made a statement since the arrival of Mrs Buhari in the US.
