We are living in a time where brides no longer stick to tradition as long as bridal fashion is concerned. Here's how to go blue on your big day.

Fashion-forward brides could certainly swap out classic white for a dress in pretty pale blue, or simply employ it as an aquatic-coloured embellishment.

"Beading, lace, embroidery and sashes continue to be in high demand, and it's even more fun when a bride chooses to use blue in these details," said Christine Ringuette, owner of Down The Aisle Wedding Planning & Design.

But her personal favourite is when brides wear a blue crinoline that peeks out beneath the gown – try it with a tea-length for big impact.

Keep in mind that blue can be a little overpowering on its own, said Patton, so instead of piling on the blue flowers or linen, use it as an accent colour in vases or ribbons.

Some of Patton's favorite palettes: navy and sage green with pops of yellow and white for a classy, preppy and somewhat vintage vibe; vibrant blues with purples, greens and yellows (inspired by peacock feathers) for a stylish and fun feel; and cobalt and bronze for a beachfront wedding.
