Lorry Kills 28-Year-Old Poly Student, Colleagues Go On Rampage
A female student of the Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State, was crushed to death in an accident that involved a lorry and a motorcycle at the weekend.
The driver of the lorry ran away after the accident.
Angered by the death of their colleagues, students of the institution burnt down the lorry and a number of others and also attacked and injured some of the policemen deployed to douse the tension.
Confirming the incident to journalists, state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Folasade Odoro, said said some miscreants attempted to hijack the incident to cause mayhem.
“There was a fatal accident along the polytechnic road in Ede and a team from the Motor Traffic Department arrived the scene on time but the students disallowed them from performing their duties as a result of which a patrol team was dispatched there."
"The team pacified the students to remain calm, but unfortunately, a group attacked the policemen and injured one of them on the head,” DSP Odoro said.
He also revealed that two persons have been arrested in connection with the incident and urged residents to go about their business in peaceful manner.
