The vaccine was launched by the State Commissioner for Health, Abubakar Tafida at the Dutse General Hospital.
“Jigawa is the first state to introduce the injectable polio vaccine in the northern part of Nigeria. This is a great achievement considering the fact that we have succeeded in providing a relatively good routine immunization and supplemental immunization against the polio virus in the state,” Tafida said.
“With the injectable vaccine, only three doses are needed to complete the whole exercise unlike the oral one of five doses,” he added.
Tafida said further that due to the state government’s commitment, no case of polio had been recorded in the state in 28 months.
