Rotary to vaccinate 250 teenage girls against cervical cancer

The new Rotary President in the state said that the girls will be selected from various secondary schools.

Open hands raised, stop cervical cancer

The President of the club, Mr Chidi Nwakpadolu, said at his installation as the third president of the district in Awka on Tuesday that the community service would be achieved through active partnership with a multinational pharmaceutical company.

Nwakpadolu said that the girls would be selected from secondary schools in different parts of the state.

He said the district would also facilitate free hepatitis B and C screening for prison inmates as well as members of the police force in the three area commands in the state.

“In the remaining period of 2016 and under my leadership, the Rotary Club of Awka Central will vaccinate 250 young school girls between the ages of 14 years and 19 years against cervical cancer.

“We will also conduct free hepatitis B and hepatitis C tests for prisoners in Anambra and the men of the police force in the three commands in Anambra. These will be achieved under our partnership with GSK and Roche pharmaceuticals respectively.

“Our goals remain uplifting the lives of our people and ameliorating their problems, and because the wellbeing of our people is hindered by these challenges, we shall continue to combat them,” he said.

Some notable individuals were presented with awards of fellows and associate membership for their assistance to Rotary International.
