In the light of Liberia being declared an Ebola-free country by the World Health Organisation (WHO), the Kenyan government has confirmed the immediate lifting of the temporary travel suspension placed on travellers from Liberia.

James Macharia, the Health Cabinet Secretary, however insisted that the country would continue to screen all travellers coming to Kenya from Liberia and other countries until the outbreak was globally controlled.

Kenya, which banned travellers from Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia on August 16, 2014, lauded Liberia for the successful containment of the outbreak.

After passing the 42-day mark without a new case, WHO declared Liberia an Ebola free-country and the jubilant nation celebrated by declaring a public holiday on Monday, May 11th as citizens took to the streets to celebrate.
