Female activists in Iran called for a general strike in Isfahan today, in protest at recent attacks in which acid was thrown at women in the city.

According to UK Times, protesters took to the streets for the second consecutive day yesterday as citizens demanded tougher action from the authorities.

At least eight women have been disfigured and even blinded by men on motorbikes who threw acid through car windows.

Local reports suggest that there have been more than 20 victims. Doctors denied claims that one woman had died of her injuries.
