Pastor Arrested For Armed Robbery

Pastor Kofi has since confessed to the crime and would be arraigned before court soon

A pastor in Ghana has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a robbery operation which took place in 2011.

Founder and head pastor of Mogya Kokoo Church at Abofu near Achimota in Accra, Justice Osei Kofi has been accused of conspiring with two men - Nana Ama Agyeiwaa and Avo Kevorkion- a Lebanese, to rob the managing director of Cemix Company Limited of various sums of money, including Gh¢85,000, $320,000 and €110,000.

Agyeiwaa and Kevorkion were arrested earlier, prosecuted and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment each but 48-year-old Kofi was recently apprehended because he had gone into hiding after being declared wanted by the police.

Briefing the media, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Accra regional Police Commander, said Pastor Osei Kofi and his accomplices, armed with pistol and knife, attacked and robbed one Jean Francis Mourad, the managing director of Cemix Company Limited, of the aforementioned amount in 2011.

Suspect Avo Kevorkion, then employee of the company, arranged for the suspects to meet his managing director in his office after he had introduced them as customers who wanted to purchase a generator.

Mr. Jean Francis Mourad was attacked at gun and knife points where he was tied in his hands and legs and dragged to his wash room by the suspects.

The police said, the three then locked the victim inside the washroom before bolting with the money in a waiting taxi.

Mr. Mourad managed to free himself and raised an alarm that led to their arrest.

A police officer who heard the alarm chased the suspects and blocked their taxi with his car.

The pastor managed to escape with the money but Agyeiwaa and Avo Kevorkion were apprehended.

He had since been on the police wanted list until he was apprehended through police intelligence at his hideout at Techiman.

Pastor Kofi has since confessed to the crime and would be arraigned before court soon.
