Nigerians Ask: Who Is Boko Haram's Internet Service Provider?

Nigerian on Twitter have taken time off to question the ease with which the dreaded Boko Haram sect communicates over the internet.

In a number of probing tweets, people wondered how the sect members, allegedly operating from the remote corners of Sambisa forest, are able to use mobile communications technology.

Of particular interest is are the long videos of Abubakar Shekau, the sect's leader, which are posted online now and then.

"Na wao. I dey lagos, internet na problem. Shekau dey forest, yet e get bandwidth take upload 59 mins video #thereisgod," @CoolCash4Live posted.

@Fatiskira asked the same question in the tweet: "When we cannot watch YouTube for straight 10 minutes in the cities, Here comes Shekau uploading almost an hour video from Forest #confusing."

One mischievous Twitterzen, @ThaSoulReaver_, asked to be hooked up with the sect's ISP.

"Shekau, please can you hook me up with your Internet provider?" he wrote.

"BTW who is #BokoHaram Shekau's Internet provider? Cos ever you ever tried watch online porn in Nigeria? U r done b4 it uploads," @walegates's tweet read.

For ?@babake244 it was something to ponder.

He wrote, "I can't update common apps due to poor network quality but Shekau is in Sambisa Forest with enough bandwidth to upload an hour video."

This access, @DanielMadugu opines, suggests Shekau has access to satellite communication.

"Shekau's internet must be pretty fast. He is likely to be connected to a satellite. Can the world treat this

The security implications and possibilities of the terrorists’ broadband use caught @crownyemi  attention.

"What internet connection (provider) does this Shekau guy use to upload his videos? can't the IP address be traced?" he tweeted.

As a layman, I have often wondered how the terrorists communicate with such ease and nothing can be done to use that as an avenue to trap them.
