Ellen DeGeneres Is Not The Owner Of The Epic Oscar Selfie
So who owns it?
Sadly the owner of the camera which captured the famous selfie, Ellen DeGeneres is officially not the owner of the picture, except she buys the right from the true owner!
According to TMZ, the historic picture belongs to the person who actually took the snap shot, Bradley Cooper and not the person who owned the phone or organized the shoot, Ellen!
Duh! Is this what Twitter is saying too?
The site further claims that even if Ellen signed her rights over to the Academy, when she signed her hosting gig, the Academy has no rights to the photo because Ellen can't transfer what isn't hers.
So here is how its gonna be: unless Bradley signed his rights away to the Academy, he's the copyright owner. Any use of the pic without his permission is a violation of the copyright. He'd also own the rights to any reproduction of the picture.Sources however say Cooper seemed down with tweeting it out, so Ellen is cool. But any use of that selfie pic on TV shows - including hers - would only be possible with Bradley's blessing.
Wow! Who says you can’t make extra cash using someone else’s initiative? It could definitely come in handy if that "Hangover" money runs out.
