Chris Brown To Stand Trial For Assault After All

Judge's denial to dismiss case means the singer could head to jail if all goes wrong.

Chris Brown will stand trial for assault after a judge in Washington on Monday rejected a request to dismiss his case.

This bad news comes after the singer's legal team headed by Mark Geragos, argued for the dismissal of the case because prosecutors abused the grand jury process to prepare for trial.

His lawyer claimed prosecutors used the grand jury to 'freeze' the testimony of the alleged victim in the case, a man who says Brown and his bodyguard punched him outside a Washington hotel in October. Geragos called the incident 'the most investigated misdemeanor of all time,' according to UK's Daily Mail.

Sadly, Judge Patricia Wynn sided with the prosecutors instead saying, "I am persuaded that there was no abuse."

She then ordered that Brown and his bodyguard be tried separately. Brown's bodyguard, Christopher Hollosy, will start his trial April 17. Brown's trial will begin after Hollosy's ends. Both cases will be decided by a judge, not a jury.

If convicted in the Washington case, Brown could face additional penalties, including more time behind bars, under the terms of a court order in the Rihanna case since 2009.
