Man arrested for strangling 4-yr-old daughter in Akwa Ibom
A young man who killed his own daughter said he was manipulated spiritually.
In his confession to the crime at the State Command headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, the state capital, James, an indigene of Ibiaku-Ikot Udom in Ibiono Local Government Area of the state, told the police that a spiritual force pushed him to kill the toddler shortly after a meal at his mother's place.
“Immediately after eating my mother's food, suddenly, something just entered into me and urged me to kill my daughter who was fast asleep.
I responded immediately and and buried her by the side of a river close to our house. It was after I had killed her that my eyes became clear and I began to understand that I had committed a grievous offence.
As I got home, my mother asked me the whereabouts of the girl. When I could not explain, she raised alarm and alerted the neighbourhood and from there, the police was invited to arrest me.
I do not know what got into me. I regret everything."
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Cordelia Nwawe, speaking on the behalf of the Commissioner of Police in the state, Murtala Mani, said the suspect would soon be charged to court for murder after the police conclude its investigations.
