51-yr-old Coffin maker in the dock for defiling 8-yr-old girl; blames devil

A 51-year old Coffin maker,

The casket maker who is married with children and a resident of 42, Odulami Street, Lagos Island, was reportedly caught red handed in the act when the screams of the girl caught the attention of passerby who went to find out what could be the problem.

According to the mother of the victim, her daughter's cry for help attracted the attention of residents in the area and when she was rescued, she was bleeding from her private part. The mother said she rushed the girl to the hospital where doctors confirmed that she had been defiled after tests were conducted on her, with severe injury on her private part.

The suspect, during interrogation, confessed to having forcefully had sex with the little girl and blamed the devil for the deed.

He was arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court on a two-count charge of felony to wit, unlawful and indecent sexual assault on an eight-year old girl.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the crime when the charges were read to him and the Magistrate, Mrs O. A. Ogunbowale, admitted him to bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum, one of whom must own a property on the Lagos Island. He was then ordered to be remanded at the Ikoyi prison pending when he will fulfil his bail conditions, while the case was adjourned till May 12, 2016.
