20-yr-old man in prison for defiling 14-yr-old orphan

A 20-year-old man has been remanded in prison for allegedly raping a 14-year-old orphan.

Rape must be condemned in strong terms

The accused who is a trader and residing at 2, Amodu Street, Agege area of the state, had reportedly defiled the girl when he went to visit his friend at Olarenwaju Street but met his absence. He met the girl in his friend's place alone and he forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court:

“When the accused went to his friend's house, he met his absence. The girl was the only one in the house, so he seized the opportunity to rape her. The victim, who is an orphan, screamed but no one in the house came to her rescue, except her aged grandmother.”

However, Olayinka pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him and Chief Magistrate Tajudeen Elias, ordered that he be remanded in Kirikiri Prison and adjourned the case till February 24, for ruling on the bail application.
