50-yr-old man arrested for raping 10-yr-old pupil
A 50-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 10-old girl by the side of the road.
It was gathered that the guardian of the young girl and Ezeigbo are neigbours on Olatunde Close in the area, and is seen as a family friend.
The incident, according to reports, happened on April 26 at about 9pm, when the aunt the girl lives with, sent her on an errand and on her return, Ezeigbo, a father of two, waylaid her and offered her money to have sex with him but when she refused, he forcefully dragged her into a tricycle parked by the roadside, covered her mouth and and raped her.
It was when the girl got home that she informed her aunt of the assault and the aunt reported the incident at the Area G Command in Ogba, and Ezeigbo was arrested.
Initially, Ezeigbo denied raping the girl and was arraigned at the Ogba Magistrates' Court by a police prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, on two counts of rape.
When the charges were read to Ezeigbo, he pleaded not guilty and elected summary trial.
The Chief Magistrate T.A. Elias, admitted him to bail in the sum of N2.5 million with two sureties in like sum, but ordered that he be remanded in prison custody pending when his bail application will be perfected while the case was adjourned till June 8, for mention.
