Even though the Nigerian Police have been bashed severally for their perceived lackadaisical nature, Nigerians still believe in their ability to do well if they are well equipped and their welfare is taken into consideration by the government.
Readers think with better equipment, the police can do better
70% of Pulse Nigeria Poll voters are of the belief that if the police are well equipped, they can perform better.
This much we gathered from the Pulse Nigeria Poll that was carried on Wednesday, October 14, where readers were asked to say their minds on the effectiveness of the police in the country.
This rose from the event of Tuesday, October 13, where over 40 fully armed robbers in military uniforms, laid siege on two banks in Festac Town, Lagos, in broad daylight, and for over one hour, operated with reckless abandon, shooting sporadically into the air, using state of the art arms and ammunition, including dynamites and grenades, with no policemen in sight, though the banks are not far far from the Festac Police Division.
Apart from the Festac debacle, there have been reports of armed robbery attackes in different parts of the country with the police either not ready to take action or poor in taking them.
While many can give excuses for their inability to confront the robbers due to their inadequate equipment, others still think there could even be some form of cooperation by some criminal elements in the force.
Others are of the belief that the welfare of the police have been neglected and as such, the officers would not want to risk their lives.
This was the poser for the Poll of the day:
How Nigeria voted:
70% - Yes, they can if adequately equipped
30% - No, they cannot as they are corrupt
