Woman says being raped by her father daily was harrowing

A woman who has been repeatedly raped by her father over a decade has now described her experiences as harrowing.

Mandy Greenwood was raped by her father for a decade.

A 39-year-old woman, Mandy Greenwood, who endured almost a decade of rape by her father, has spoken out of her harrowing nightmare, saying she was more like his wife than daughter.

Mandy from Rochdale, Greater Manchester, was testifying in the trial of her father, Keith Whitworth, 61, who has been jailed 22 years for the sickening offences.

The terrifying catalogue of assaults started when she was aged just seven and continued till she was 20.

Mandy said her father would creep into her room at night and what started as touching quickly developed into something far more sinister.

"My dad used to tell me he only did it because he loved me. I was more like his wife than his daughter.

I would cry myself to sleep each night. There was nobody for me to confide in. I felt so alone and so sad. I wasn’t close to my mum at all.

Sometimes he would take me to the park – what seemed like a nice trip out – but he would abuse me then too.

Now he’s in jail the sense of freedom and relief is incredible. He can never hurt another child again."

It was only in 2013 that Mandy finally reported Whitworth’s heinous crimes to the police.

He was found guilty of 23 historic child sex offences, including rape, attempted rape, buggery, indecent assault and indecency against a child.
