Nigerians angry after Lagos monarch humiliates Ooni of Ife (Video)

Nigerians have reacted negatively after a video showed up on social media where the Oba of Lagos humiliated the Ooni of Ife in public.

The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Aremu Akiolu and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi

In the video which has elicited angry responses by Nigerians, the Ooni of Ife is seen arriving the venue of the event which had the Oba Akiolu II sitting beside another monarch and as the Ooni walked over to greet the Obas.

But immediately he stretched out his hand to the Lagos King, Oba Akiolu is seen looking away in dismay and then looked away dismissing the accountant turned traditional ruler with a wave of his hand.

The embarrassed monarch, took the incident like a gentleman and quietly returned to his seat but Nigerians who have great love for the Ife King have been lambasting the controversial Oba of Lagos who allegedly threatened Igbos living in the state that they risked perishing in the Lagoon if they failed to vote for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Akinwunmi Ambode, in the run up to the 2015 elections.

Social media commentators took the Oba to the cleaners for humiliating the Ooni of Ife with different reactions:

A Facebook user, Kenny Statesman posted:

"No No No!!! This is not worthy of Oba of Lagos, seriously I’m extremely disappointed.”

Another Facebook user, Deji Afolayan said:

“I see no reason why Oba Akiolu should act like that; I really like the Oba of Lagos but his action here is uncalled for.”

Kayode Henry posted:

"This attitude is unbecoming of a king in Yoruba land. The Ooni of Ife, no matter his age, is a superior Oba to all other obas.

If it were to be in the days where culture and tradition still took its rightful place, all the obas, no matter your age, should be on their feet whenever the Obaluaye of Ife (Ooni) comes in.

But the respectful king did not even think about that but came to embrace the Oba of Lagos on his seat, but all he could do is this show of shame.”

Abiodun Olojede wrote:

"What an act of arrogance. It is very unfortunate that the Oba of Lagos disgraced himself, not the highly respected Ooni of Ife.”

Twitter users were also not left out in the attack with many of them coming up with funny memes on the incident, while others just noted their disappointment in the show of shame.
