Rihanna Fights HIV/AIDS With Vogue Lipsticks

America Music Awards honoured her as the first ICON. Now, she’s speaks of being responsible.

Rihanna is barely 10 years in the music business yet she is the Most Liked Person on Facebook and has become the first artist to surpass 4 billion views on YouTube. Not to mention she is only 25. Does RiRi not deserve to be called an ICON by the America Music Awards standards? Why does the world find it so hard to believe she could be responsible enough?

In a recent interview with Good Morning America, Rihanna acknowledged that the title as ICON was insanely huge and came with a massive responsibility which she admits; she has to live up to, "I feel like icon …that’s such a big title. It’s such a big thing to say or to even be said about myself. Now the pressure’s on. I have to live up to it and I have to keep making my fans proud … Music is what I love to do so you never have to worry about me not doing that. I love making it.”

Making AMA’s debut ICON award holder even more worth it, Cosmetic brand MAC also made RiRi a Philanthropic Partner with their latest Viva Glam Campaign to raise a targeted 40 million dollars for young people suffering from HIV/AIDS. Once again the What Now singer stated with pride, that it was an honour to stand by the youths to fight against the epidemic.

"Our goal is to raise $40 million, the Viva Glam Rihanna Campaign, and the MAC AIDS Fund will be donating a $2 million grant to UNAIDS. It’s a global organization that focuses on youth prevention of HIV and AIDS because it’s the youth. They’re a little more naive to the reality of the disease and how big it really is. How much of an epidemic it is amongst young people specifically. HIV and AIDS has been around for as long as I've been alive and now more than half of the new infections are people 24 years old and under. So it’s really scary and It’s around.”

"The Viva Glam campaign is an iconic campaign that has been around for a few years with them. Buying the lipstick is really the most important part of this because one hundred percent of the cost…I mean every penny you spend on the lipstick or the lipglass goes to the MAC AIDS Fund."

Well, if you are still wondering why RiRi decided to carry on this burden on her solders or you feel she's not up to the task because she’s allegedly not 'your idea of a role model', here's what Rihannathinks, "The thing about MAC as a brand that I really love and embrace is the fact that they don’t judge [me]. They’re not here to say, 'Be perfect.' They want you to have fun as well as be myself. I want you to have fun. I love having fun, but you have to be responsible."

She continued,

"You have to be safe. Protect yourself. You have to look out for yourself because nobody else can do that for you. It's real [AIDS]. It's a real disease. If we can just protect ourselves and be more responsible about it, I think that’s important for young people."

So, after this 'responsible' chit chat with Rihanna, do you think she fits as an ICON?
