'My wife told me my first son is not mine'

What would be your reaction if a DNA test result shows that your first son was actually fathered by another man?

This is a real depressed man

"Dear Pulse,

My name is , a businessman based in Lagos State. I have been married for eight years to , a Yoruba lady, with three lovely children whom I love so much and can do anything for.

But my marriage is being threatened because after all these years, Ronke made a pronouncement that is capable of sending me to my early grave.

Our first son, , has been sickly of late and we have taken him to several hospital to no avail. Our family doctor thereafter advised that we take Nduka to India for specialist treatment.

While in India, the doctors detected that he had some form of terminal illness that would require quick surgery as well as blood transfusion.

As the father, I was willing to donate my blood but after a series of tests, it was discovered that our blood groups do not match.

But something else that bothered me was when the doctor called me into his office to tell me that he doubted if I was the father of the boy and that we could do a quick DNA test to confirm it because the ailment is hereditary and there is no such history in my family.

I did not believe the doctor but I just decided to humour him by taking the DNA test which turned out that I am of Nduka, a boy I have loved and nurtured all his life. I was so mad and could have harmed Ronke there and then but the doctors calmed me down and said I needed to take things easily.

Later that night, in our hotel room, I told her that if Nduka does not get the blood transfusion in a week's time, he would die.

Then I tactfully asked her who his real father was but she told me I am the father but when I showed her the result of the DNA test, she confessed and told me that while we were dating, she was also seeing another man and that when she got pregnant, she told the man who promptly denied responsibility.

But since she could not get an abortion, she pushed the pregnancy to me and that was how we got married.

I was mad at her but my first thought was for Nduka lying helplessly in the hospital. As it is, the doctors want his real father to do the blood donation. But how do I just call up a man to tell him that he should fly down to India to donate blood for a child he refused to accept?

I love Nduka so much that I am willing to do anything for him to live.

Nnamdi."
