Robber sentenced to die for stealing handset

An armed robbery suspect has been sentenced to death by hanging for stealing an handset and a cash of N10,000.

For snatching a handset worth N2,500 and stealing the sum of N10,000, a High Court sitting at Akwukwu-Igbo in Oshimili North local government area of Delta State has sentenced an armed robbery suspect, Vincent Okwekwu, to death by hanging.

According to the prosecutors from the state Department of Public Prosecution (DPP), Okwekwu with two others now at large, armed with cutlass, had broken into the apartments of one Ofoyeju Peter and Tietie Moses and robbed them of cash amounting to N10,000 and a telephone handset in 2009 at the Umueha Quarters in Ibusa.

In sentencing the convict to death, the judge averred that the prosecution had proven its case beyond every reasonable doubt and that the suspect was guilty of conspiracy to commit armed robbery and deserved to die.
