The accused, an unemployed who lives at Ilasamaja near Mushin area of Lagos State, is standing trial on a three- count charge bordering on unlawful possession of fire arms and attempted robbery.

The chief magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison pending the receipt of legal advice from the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPPs).

“In view of the nature of the case, the case file should be duplicated and forwarded to the DPPs for advice,” Osunsanmi said.

The magistrate, thereafter, adjourned the matter until May 18, for mention.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Imhonwa, told the court that the accused committed the offences with others at large on Nov. 16, 2016 at about 3.00 a.m., at Ilasamaja during a stop-and-search.

Imhonwa said the accused was apprehended by the police while attempting to rob one Sebastina Agosu in her house while his accomplices fled in an unmarked car.

The prosecutor said that the police recovered one locally-made-double barrel pistol, one locally-made-single-barrel revolver pistol, one locally-made-barrette pistol and 12 live cartridges from him.

The prosecutor said that the accused could not produce any licences issued to him from any appropriate authority.

He said the offences contravened Sections 295, 296 and 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 as revised.

The accused had earlier been arraigned for alleged conspiracy and armed robbery, sometime, in 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
