Man in court for defrauding girlfriend of N295k
A man has been dragged to a court in Lagos for defrauding a woman under the pretext that he was going to marry her.
The suspect, who resides at 16, Shola Arodoye Obadeyi Street, Abule Egba, a suburb of the state, was dragged to the court after he reportedly duped Adeleke of the money and is facing a two-count charge of stealing and fraud.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Clifford Ogu, had earlier told the court that Olasemo collected the money from the complainant between February to December 2015, at Ikeja, under the pretext that he was going to marry her.
“The suspect claimed he loved the complainant and borrowed N295,000 from her on the pretext he had some domestic issues to solve.
The suspect later told the complainant that their relationship cannot go further without giving any reasons for it,” Ogu said.
The Inspector said that when the complainant asked for a refund of her money, the suspect refused, thereby committing the offences contravened Sections 285 and 321(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
But when the charges were read to him, Olasemo pleaded not guilty and the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case till April 18 for mention.
