Man Commits Suicide Over N35,000 Rent

The middle aged mechanic is said to have killed himself over the inability to pay his landlord

A family in Minna, the Niger state capital, has been thrown in grief after their father and husband committed suicide.

43-year-old Obi Orji is said to have killed himself in the early hours of Monday due to the fact that he could not afford to pay rent of N35,000.

Orji's landlord, one Alhaji Lateef, had threatened him with eviction if the rent was not paid and this led the deceased to drink poison to avoid the shame.

The father-of-five reportedly waited for his wife and kids to leave home for church before he took his own life. Orji's body has since been deposited in a mortuary at the Minna General Hospital.
