3 cable thieves arrested by NSCDC
Three young men have been apprehended by the NSCDC for vandalising electric cables in Anambra state.
The suspects, Nnamdi Nweke, a welder apprentice, Chibuzor Mouto, an orange seller and Ikechukwu Okafor, a groundnut seller were arrested on Sunday, September 18 at Agu-Awka line.
After the suspects who hail from Awka were paraded at the Corps’ headquarters in the State, they claimed to have been lured into the crime by one Ezike who is yet to be apprehended.
Speaking with journalists, the State Corps Commandant, Mr Godwin Omoregie, disclosed that the operatives who were on patrol on that fateful day when a noise from a nearby bush drew their attention and upon investigation, caught the suspects cutting up the cables with saws.
He added that the suspects initially attempted to escape after being discovered, however, one of the suspects was arrested leading to the arrest of the other two suspects while the suspected leader is still on the run. Upon their arrests, two saws were recovered from the suspects.
