10 kidnap victims rescued by security operatives

10 persons abducted in the Kuje area of Abuja have been rescued by security operatives in the state.

However, an officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anumudu Uche, died during the rescue mission which was carried out by men of the Police Mobile Force, Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad, FCT Police Command, Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army and the NSCDC, Punch reports.

While making the announcement of the rescue at a press briefing on Monday, November 21, in Abuja, the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello, disclosed that the victims have been handed over to the Chief of Kuje for immediate rehabilitation.

According to the minister, Uche took ill during the rescue operations and later died. Bello further stated that Uche's death had not been in vain as the 10 other residents were rescued safely.

The victims are identified as, Fanus Emmanuel, Babangida Emmanuel, Akimmi Dauda, Japhet Kwasu, Dorcas Shuaibu, Kemu Cheik, Hamza Yunusa, Umar Godiri, Ismaila Yusuf and Abubakar Gomo.

According to the reports, the victims were abducted at Darka and Huni-Gade communities in Kuje Area Council on November 13, 2016.

Punch reports that a 28-year old man, Zakariyya Nuhu was killed during the abduction.

Bello also said that the structures set up by the notorious hoodlums have been destroyed, adding that the security agencies have set up a surveillance mechanism to get rid of miscreants in the FCT.

Also, Police Commissioner of the state, Mohammed Mustapha, assured residents in the affected villages that efforts were being made by the command beginning with a massive deployment in the area, to forestall any a future recurrence.

He said, “The Joint security team mobilised their personnel and set out for the rescue operation at a thick forest bothering the FCT and Nasarawa state. The stronghold of the assailants was destroyed during the operation and a number of suspects were arrested and would be prosecuted after investigations.”
