He said the sentence was meant to serve as a deterrent to Bala and those who might want to engage in similar acts. Bala said the devil was responsible for his action.
The magistrate, Mr Suleman Wase, handed down the sentence after the convict pleaded guilty to the crime and begged for leniency.
Wase, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N3, 000 or serve the sentence concurrently.
He said the sentence was meant to serve as a deterrent to Bala and those who might want to engage in similar acts.Bala said the devil was responsible for his action.
"It was the devil that led me to do it; have mercy on me I will not do it again,’’ he pleaded.
The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Terngu Yongu, had told the court that one Ojo Yakubu of Angwan Rukuba, reported the matter at the Divisional Police Headquarters, on Dec. 31.
Yongu said Bala stole the machine worth N65, 000, from the complainant's workshop.
He added that he was arrested with the machine as he attempted to sell it to another man, an offence he said, contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.
