The Director, Veterinary Public Health in the state, Dr Ahmed Ambursa, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi.
Govt to issue licence to dogs keepers
Only licensed individuals will be allowed to have dogs as their pets or guards in Kebbi following the state government's recent declaration.
Ambursa said the state government would also review legislation on public health to make it more effective and advised pets owners to immunize their animals against disease.
He commended the Veterinary Medical Association in the state for ensuring that dogs and other pets were immunized against Rabbies.
Also fielding questions from NAN, the Chairman, Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) in the state, Dr Alheri Senchi, said more than 200 dogs were immunized against rabies this year.
He said more dogs would be immunised against the disease and appealed to dogs and pets owners to always take their animals to veterinary clinics for observation and treatment.
