Police arrest 6 suspected cultists
A notorious gang of six suspected cultists terrorizing an Enugu community have been arrested by the policd.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Enugu.
Amaraizu said the suspects were nabbed by the police on Jan. 28 at Ukwuoji axis of Emene community, following intelligence information gathered on their alleged nefarious activities.
He gave the names of the suspects as Nwali Emmanuel from Ebonyi; Nze Sampson from Imo, and Chukwu Joseph, also from Ebonyi.
Others are: Nweke Jeremiah from Ebonyi; Eze Onyema from Imo and Etim Bassey from Cross River.
“It was gathered that suspects alongside with other fleeing ones also on the manhunt list of the police had allegedly converged on a spot located at Ukwuoji axis of the community before police operatives struck and arrested six of them while the rest escaped,’’ he said.
The police spokesman said the suspects were already helping the Anti-cult Unit of the command in its investigation.
“The command is advising members of the public to be law abiding and avoid any acts capable of bringing them into conflict with the law and to shun cultism and its related activities.
“Anyone caught in or encouraging cult-related activities will be made to face the music in line with the specification of the law,’’ he added.
