Police arraign cook for alleged theft of N1.5m jewelries

The Prosecutor, Osa Oyeyemi, told the court that one Umma Muktar of Jabi, Abuja, reported the matter at Wuse Police Station on Aug. 12, 2015.

 

A cook, Sati Kwasu, on Monday appeared in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing his employer’s jewelries valued at more than N1.5 million.

Kwasu of Saminaka Village, Kaduna, was arraigned on a three-count charge of criminal trespass, house-breaking and theft.

He allegedly broke into his employer’s bedroom through a window and made away with the jewelries.

The Prosecutor, Osa Oyeyemi, told the court that one Umma Muktar of Jabi, Abuja, reported the matter at Wuse Police Station on Aug. 12, 2015.

Oyeyemi said that Kwasu, who was a cook to the complainant, trespassed into Umma’s room.

He told the court that the defendant used an iron to break into the room through the window and stole different types of jewelries.

The prosecutor said that the defendant was sighted and arrested at Utako.

He said that Kwasu sold the jewelries and bought a Toyota car that he converted to a taxi.

Oyeyemi said the offences contravened Sections 348, 354 and 288 of the Penal Code.

Kwasu pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Usman Shuaibu, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of one million naira with one surety in like sum.

Shuaibu adjourned the matter till March 2, for hearing.
