Man who paid N1.8M bride price invokes millipede on wife's family

A man who allegedly paid the sum of N1.8 million as a bride price for his wife went gaga by invoking a multitude of millipedes on her compound after she ran away from his house.

The invoked millipedes

The incident happened in Ekpene Ikot Effio Anang in the Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State, after the family of the 32-year-old woman, Esther Asuquo, refused to allow her to go back to her estranged husband following their disagreement.

According to residents of the community, the family of the woman took her to the home of a native doctor instead of a church after she was forced to run away from her home following several prophecies indicating that the powers invoked in her house by her husband would be active for a long time.

The people of the community has, however, vowed to banish the husband, a non-indigene, who hired a native doctor from another land to invoke the charm, while a militant group, which he first took the matter to, is said to be very angry at the actions of the man.

It was gathered that the man identified only as Asuquo, reportedly had issues with the wife who packed out of his house and went back to her family but instead of looking for an amicable solution to the issue, Asuquo allegedly reported her to a militant group, demanding a refund of the money he spent on her as dowry.

The militant group was said to have ruled against him and not satisfied, he contracted a native doctor to force the woman and her family to refund his money by invoking the millipedes.  It was further revealed that the woman's family decided to take her to stay with another native doctor to save her from the charm.

A community source said:

“She is not with any church; she is now living with one native doctor somewhere in this community. But we do not blame her because no one with a sane mind will stay in that kind of place if that juju is not neutralized.

We have also seen somebody she brought to come and do some things here, and we know that they are not church people; that person is not a pastor, she lives in one of the thatch houses in the compound of the native doctor somewhere in the community."

The acting village head of the Ekpene Ikot Effio Anang community, who is also the youth leader of the area, Edem Edet, said it would be foolish on the part of the community to allow the estranged husband to remain in the community or build houses on the land given to him by the people because they have seen what he is capable of doing.

“We have seen the kind of person he is; we now know that he is not supposed to live among us because he has a questionable character.

This kind of man can poison people where they gather to relax or drink; he is even capable of killing to possess what belongs to another man. For this reason and other things that I would not like to go into, he can no longer live with us.

He came to me a few days ago to tell me what he wants, but from the way he spoke, I think he still loves Esther, but it is too late because he took it too far.

Even the militants went to the place and they are very angry with what he did because the case was still before them, yet he went behind to contract a native doctor.”
