The uneasy calm that has pervaded the usually boisterous Oshodi area of Lagos State, could explode any moment from now following the brutal murder of Olayinka Mamowora, alias Mamok, a close confidante and aide of the Lagos State Treasurer, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo.
Oshodi boils as NURTW's leader, MC Oluomo's aide murdered
A close aide of a Lagos NURTW leader was murdered in cold blood while cutting his hair.
According to reports, the 46-year-old Mamok, a relative of Senator Olorunnimbe Mamora, was gunned down while having his hair cut inside a barbing saloon close to his house in the area and reports are rife that his killers could have been sent by a rival of the Oluomo, and there are fears there could be reprisal attacks by his loyalists.
A witness who claimed to be in the vicinity of the salon at the time of the attack narrated how it happened:
“Mamok came back from an outing and decided to shave his beards for the Independence Day.
Few minutes after he entered the saloon, we started hearing gun shots, and that was when pandemonium ensured.
Everyone in the neighbourhood was running helter-skelter, and few minutes later, we heard, Mamok was the target of the attack.”
Another witness said the assailants pumped bullets into Mamok's head, making sure he was dead before dragging his corpse outside and put it on top of his ash-coloured Honda saloon car.
“Once people heard gun shots, residents and passersby scampered in different directions for safety. Those guys who killed Mamok after satisfying themselves that he was dead, left on their motorcycles immediately.”
